On Friday 18th September, we had the pleasure of hosting A Midsummer Night’s Dream Gala Dinner in aid of Demelza Hospice Care for Children.
Over 300 guests made their way from the river bank through a woodland entrance and descended into the magical Underglobe for a Shakespearean treat.
The venue was adorned with foliage to bring the Shakespearean forest to life. Pine cones, moss and ivy trailed their way down into the main space where each dinner table was set with its own tree centre piece, festooned with brightly coloured flowers, butterflies and insects. Foliage unfurled across the table tops and places were set with slate mats inscribed with quotes from Shakespeare’s famous play.
Staff styled as fairies and woodland creatures greeted the guests with Champagne as they enjoyed their private viewing of the Shakespeare Exhibition. As guests made their way down into the enchanting dinner space, a hoop act mesmerised the guests from above, draped in soft moon lighting and haze.
Guests enjoyed a classic menu showcasing the best of British produce, including Hanson & Lyderson smoked salmon, corn-fed chicken with smoked bacon and an indulgent treacle tart with London honeycomb dessert. During dinner, guests competed over the iBid silent auction, bidding for some of the charity’s fantastic prizes, including a private box at Ascot and many more special treats.
After dinner, we heard from a father who spoke of his family’s experiences with Demelza, reminding us all that this lovely evening had the very serious purpose of raising vital funds for Demelza’s hospice. This was followed by the live auction, hosted by Clive Emerson, which was the final round off of the fundraising, and pushed the clear profit on the evening to £125,000.
The lively part of the evening kicked off with a percussionist supporting the Roustabouts with some heart thumping beats. The Roustabouts got the crowd dancing, spinning Balkan beats, cabaret, electro-swing and all the guilty pleasures. It’s safe to say guests danced the night away, celebrating the successes for Demelza House for the evening.
